Full Abstract: The epidemiology and risk factors for performance-related medical problems are discussed. Differing populations of musicians are also examined with attention to specific risk factors, including: music students, professional orchestral musicians, non-classical musicians, marching and other band members, amateur musicians, the male and female genders, and differing age groups. In addition, the epidemiology and risk factors are assessed by instrument, including the brass family. Dermatologic, psychological problems, the effects of substance abuse, and hearing problems are also summarized.
