Full Abstract: Iltis' attempt to improve his low register horn playing by extensive practice sessions made his playing worse. He was eventually diagnosed with focal dystonia of the embouchure. Though the exact cause of dystonia is unknown, trauma may induce dystonia and excessive practicing may increase the likelihood as well. Practice sessions should include five minutes of rest every thirty minutes with breaks every ninety minutes.
